FROM almost folding to just missing the finals, it has been a roller-coaster year for Ovingham.
Ahead of this season, coach Darryn Butler was not worried about winning games, instead hoping to field full teams every week and not endure any more 30-goal losses.
But the Cats have surpassed everyone’s expectations including their own and have finished sixth on the C2 ladder.
Now Ovingham has its sights firmly set on a spot in next year’s finals.
Assistant coach Jason Scott is even talking premierships.
“About half the team are from the Woodside Army Barracks and left throughout the year to go to Afghanistan,” Scott said.
“But they will all be back next year and things are looking good.
“We are definitely looking at finals and premierships now.”
Ovingham’s resurgence is in stark contrast to April last year when the 104-year-old club came close to folding because of a lack of players.
It staged a short comeback when other clubs donated players, but forfeited the season after playing just four games, including a 218-point loss to Gepps Cross in round nine.
The Cats finished the 2011 season with eight wins and eight losses.
